Scheme description
The challenge of the Panoramic was to transform a 1960’s office building, the former BritishGas headquarters beside Vauxhall Bridge into a high quality residential development. By extending each of the 20 floors to cover the perimeter beams, significant additional floor area was gained. The raised perimeter spaces which were thus created make wonderful viewing platforms from which to enjoy the stunning views of the River Thames. In addition they make interesting split level interiors with an inner, more private living space at the lower level.
The design concept allows for a variety of different flat layouts to maximise the benefit of the views. A great deal of additional value was also gained by turning a redundant rooftop plantroom into a stunning double height penthouse.
Complex planning negotiations were also required which included securing compliance with Westminster’s affordable housing policies by means of financial contribution.
