Formation Architects were approached by Westhouse Group to design residential developments in three sites (Oasis, Lakeside and Mamaia) along the Romanian Black Sea coast. Romania continues to develop at an unprecedented rate, with increasing demand for modern housing to replace the ageing housing stock of the Ceausescu era. All three sites combine this aspiration for modern living with a sensitive and advantageous use of context.
"Everyone will see the sunrise at Oasis" – this initial statement lead to an emphasis on orientation, ensuring each home has generous views over the sea and natural light. The site is divided along radial lines to form smaller neighborhoods. Each neighborhood consists of elevated courtyard housing at the rear, punctuated by a larger tower and jetty at the water’s edge. Car parking is concealed under the rear raised level, allowing for maximum green space.
