Scheme description
The 7 hectare site of the former Crawley Leisure Centre is located in an area of former woodland to the east of Crawley. Crawley New Town, created in 1947, was one of the first generation new towns-part of the Garden City movement designed to disburse people and employment from London.

The scheme received planning permission in January 2006 and is currently under construction. The layout comprises approximately 830 dwellings, including apartments, family housing and affordable units.

We were responsible for the masterplan, developed in close consultation with Crawley Borough Council and Local Residents. Each part of the layout is designed to reinforce a distinct character area as shown on the plan opposite. The themes which have been applied to this site have been drawn from the history of Crawley, its development and especially the ideas that informed its creation as a garden city. There is a strong significance in today’s agenda for new sustainable places to live, that originate from these design ideals.
