Sustainability
The politicians have made it very clear that “green issues” are central to our future especially in the city. Standards of sustainability in design including the requirement for renewable energy are being raised all the time towards the goal of carbon neutral housing by the year 2016.
Our philosophy is to create an architecture that responds to the needs of the city and for good reason sustainable design is now high on the agenda. We have responded by making sustainability central to everything that we do. We bring a full understanding of all the issues surrounding sustainability to the design process and have worked with many of the best known consultants in the field.
But we also decided to see what we could be doing as a business ourselves. We commissioned a Carbon Footprint Assessment from the highly respected consultant “The CarbonNeutral Company”. The CarbonNeutral Company are an independent audited by KPMG.
The results of this exercise are threefold.
First we are taking steps to ensure that our energy use is reduced.
Second we have revised our recycling systems so that our office waste is efficiently sorted and disposed of.
Third, through the CarbonNeutral Company we have been matched with a Methane Capture Project in the Rhine-Ruhr Valley. This means that we make a financial contribution that will help reduce the escape of potent greenhouse gases from disused mines. Without the financial assistance of organisations like ourselves this important project would not be viable. Further details of the Methane Capture Project are given in the pdf below.
As a result of these and other measures we are proud to announce that Formation Architects is now certified as a “Carbon Neutral Company” under an officially recognised scheme.
