Experience
Michael studied at the TU Darmstadt in Germany and at the TU Delft in the Netherlands and holds a degree in Architecture and Urban Planning.
After graduating he joined Foster and Partners to work on the Commerzbank building in Frankfurt, still Europe's tallest office tower and a pioneer in sustainable architecture. Following the completion of the Bank he worked on a variety of projects including the Dresden Train Station (shortlisted for the Stirling Prize 2007), the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (USA), The Treasury in Whitehall in London and Foster's competition entry for the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris.
Michael joined Formation Architects (or Halpern as it was called then) in June 2002 and has been in charge of the design for a series of the practices major housing projects. These include Elektron - three towers in the Docklands, Plough Lane in Wimbledon and Botanic Place - a mixed use scheme adjacent to the Botanic Garden in Cambridge. He has also led the design for three major developments in Romania ranging from 400 to 1600 units.
He led a number of competition entries including proposals for the development of Dalston Lane, for Newington Butts in Elephant & Castle and for the redevelopment of the St. Andrew's Hospital site in Bromley by Bow for 900 units.
He has recently been in charge of the designs for 1-3 Wenlock Road and the Brewery Site and is currently leading the team developing the detailed design for a major residential project in Chelsea.
Michael became an Associate Director in 2005 and a Director in February 2010.
