Kees van der Sande graduated from Edinburgh University with first class honors and spent the early part of his career with Terry Farrell and Partners working on the Seoul transport interchange and Edinburgh Marriot Health Club. Kees then moved to Patel Taylor architects working on a variety of award winning landscape, public space, education and community buildings including Royal Victoria Square, Thames Barrier Park, the Centre for Film, TV and Theatre studies, Aberystwyth, and the Peace Park Pavilion in Wigston, Leicestershire. He has also worked in New York with Kohn Pedersen Fox and with Maccormac Jamieson Pritchard in London.
Following a period managing part of the family furniture making business between 1999 and 2003 Kees spent four years as a director of KCA Architects in London, where he was responsible for a large variety of residential, hotel, and mixed use developments. During his time with KCA, Kees built up and developed an unrivaled expertise in urban design and flood risk especially in the Thames Gateway and was involved with the Quality of Life Group chaired by Zac Goldsmith and a design champion of the housing coporation. He has been a regular speaker on the subject both to government, and the RIBA where he sits on the Building Futures advisory group.
Kees joined Formation in February 2008 as an Associate Director and is currently leading the Park Lane team with Simon Hadler.
